How to make a mother weep with pride

Annie got her final Cycle 1 portfolio today.
It is a file full of her work and about 100 photos of her days in the classroom for the last 6 months.

I have had a quick look through it in anticipation of a great explanation of all the lovely things she has done, which she will share with me this afternoon.

I did read her teacher's final note, however.
It brought such tears to me.
I wept from my heart.
That my little girl is not so little anymore.
And that she is experiencing such a beautiful education.
And such amazing teachers.

This is what her teacher said:

"Annie you are a great asset in this classroom. We wish you all the best next year in Cycle 2. I am very confident that you will succeed in everything you put your heart and soul into.

Annie you have been such a delight to teach and I have greatly enjoyed working with you. You will be missed greatly by the Room 8 children and adults. I will really miss our sweet chit-chats about your twirly skirts, butterfly headbands, full moon days and Goddess Lakshmi, so please come back to visit regularly."

I love you, my Sweetheart.

I am so proud of what you have achieved and how much you have inspired your friends, the younger children and your teachers.

Thank you for choosing me to be your mummy.

Blessings to you.

How is your inner goddess doing?

Well, Advent started on Sunday.
We set up our home made Advent calendar - Mary's walk.
We played some Christmas carols.
And we made some home made Christmas mince pies.

Quite yummy, but a bit sweet for me.
I think I will have to halve the sugar content in the filling next time.

If you are thinking of Christmas and what you could gift yourself, I have the perfect book for you.

The Inner Goddess Makeover.
By the lovely goddess, Tanishka.

You can buy it here.

I bought this book a few months ago and I am ready to start sharing my journey through this book with you.

This is not a book you sit and read in a day.
It is a process that you have to go through.

The book takes you through seven goddess archetypes.
Each goddess is represented by a chakra.
(The chakras are our seven main energy centres in our bodies)

Tanishka recommends that you take one lunar month to read each chapter.

"Since we, as women, ebb and flow with the inner tidal surges of the moon, a full lunar cycle enables us to really integrate and consciously anchor the strengths that each archetype unveils within us."

A brief introduction to the goddesses:

Base chakra: Wild woman
Sacral chakra: Beautiful muse
Solar plexus chakra: Golden heroine
Heart chakra: Earth empress
Throat chakra: Medicine woman
Third eye chakra: Wise woman
Crown chakra: High priestess

I cannot tell you how much fun I have been having with this book.
And how much I have been growing and discovering things about myself.

I feel more real, more empowered and happier because of the work I have been doing with this book.

I will post my experiences about each goddess for you as I go along.

This month, I am embracing my inner medicine woman.
And I am wearing my Lapis Lazuli crystal all month to bring her in.

What is so wonderful about this book, other than it being really funny, is that it is giving me an appreciation for all the beautiful aspects of myself.

We, as women, are so complex. We have so much to discover about ourselves. And so much to teach others.I feel privileged to be a woman.

I will share a bit of the book for you to enjoy:

"The first step is to realize there is no such thing as the perfect woman. And of course your idea of the perfect woman is not necessarily  the same as mine. Depending on which feminine archetype is ruling you, you may aspire to be a tall leggy blonde, a perfect Mother or a career superwoman... but none of these ideals will bring happiness if they are not balanced by the other archetypes.

The very idea of a perfect woman is a myth brought about primarily by marketing consultants wanting women to compulsively purchase products in the name of self-improvement. Tell-a-vision is exactly that, a vision of the world we are told to compete with, at the risk of social suicide should we fail to comply. If this sounds like a harsh appraisal, just watch daytime TV, (targeted specifically at women) and observe your self esteem plummet like a thermometer bound for the Arctic. By 3pm, you'll think your skin too white, your breasts too small, your wardrobe inadequate, your teeth too yellow, your thighs too soft and your hair colour too drab. Which begs the question, "So why do we buy it?"

Because we have literally been "programmed" to want to emulate the models we see on TV. Fortunately for us, a model is only a replica of a real thing. It is not the real thing. WE are the real thing, 100% unique specimens of womanhood. After all, the word "model" is a product description and you are not a product. You are a human being! (I, for one, strongly suspect we were never intended  to have skin as smooth as the plastic on Barbie's legs or roast our stomachs golden brown like take-out chicken in the name of beauty.)

And although we may wish we had smaller thighs or tighter abs, smaller thighs alone do not a Goddess make. No, what does give certain women that special something (and I don't mean a yeast infection) is the self-assurance of knowing they are absolutely divine exactly as they are. That is the sole purpose of this book: to enable you to see, explore and know yourself as the utterly divine creature that you truly are. So you:
A. Never doubt it again and
B. Don't surround yourself with people who fail to acknowledge you as a fully fledged Goddess in your own right. (That said, there's no need to convince the console operator at your local service station that you are in fact a Goddess. Just knowing this truth will suffice.)

Yes, regardless of your age or silhouette, just consciously embodying this principle from the inside out will bestow upon you a glow reserved for those proud owners of Aphrodite's best kept beauty secret."

Get the book here.

Blessings to you.

Red Tent the movie

"Imagine a woman who believes it is right and good she is a woman."

This is the message of the documentary that is brewing.

I can't wait to see this:

Blessings to you.

Advent 2011

That time of year is upon us.

My favourite season.

I have been a bit down about it.
Not so interested.
Because last year was so special.
My dad and brother were here from South Africa.

This year, it's just the four of us.

I have started unpacking some supplies.
And looking through my blog from last year.

I have had a few tears.
And am once again really excited for my favourite time of year!

Advent starts this Sunday.
We are once again doing Mary's walk as our home made advent calendar.

Have a read about it here. It was truly magical for all of us last year. And so easy to do.

I have been once again reading up on St Nicholas day. Since I have forgotten about it since last year! Have a read about it here. This was also a very magical tradition we started last year.

Here is a list of what I am preparing for:

Annie's joint birthday party with a friend from school
St Nicholas day
Annie's Montessori birthday celebration at school
A summer solstice celebration I am planning with one of the mum's from school
Annie's actual birthday

Why did my daughter have to be born in December, I ask?

I am planning for Santa to be finished with his Christmas shopping by the end of November.

Have you started thinking about Christmas yet?
Do you celebrate it?
Do you love it?
Hate it?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Blessings to you.

Here in Australia, it is Full Moon and 11.11.11 on the same day.

This is a very auspicious time. I am sure that you have heard all the hype surrounding this date.

Irrespective of whether you believe in things like numerology, the dawning of the Aquarian Age, Judgement Day, or the ascension of humanity.

The fact is that we are all connected to each other.

And a large part of the our global community is tapping into this day as a very special one.

So, we will all be affected by the energies of everyone tapping into this energy.

If you don't know about the significance of this date, I would suggest you do a quick internet search, you will find a lot of information.

For me, personally, this is a time of raised awareness, so I think that everyone's light is shining just a little bit brighter. It is a great time to connect to that light and to send some of it to the planet.

I am taking it easy today, and at 11 am, for 11 minutes, I am planning to be in nature and chant the Gayatri Mantra. This is mantra of light, it translates as "May all beings be enlightened."

If you feel inspired, you can play this beautiful version by Deva Premal at 11 am, your local time.

Here are the words if you would like to sing along:

Om bhur bhuvah svah
tat savitur varenyam
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yonah prachodayat

Blessings and love and light to you.

On the divine feminine

"It is  impossible to get rid of women. Many people have tried. It is impossible. It is impossible just as it is not possible for a tree to renounce the earth. It is rooted in it.

The woman is the earth. You are rooted in woman. You come out of the womb. You come out of it - and, in one way, one never comes out of it. Something remains rooted. Hence so much attraction to women. In fact the sexual penetration is nothing but a search again for the womb. Now you cannot go into the womb totally so you penetrate sexually. It is a search for the womb, a search for the roots.

The oldest method which has been tried in order to escape from women is become a monk.

The West is trying another way of avoiding commitment with women. Men relate with women, but only superficially, so that if one starts feeling entangled, one can always flee. There is a fear of commitment.

I feel that if you become committed the fear will dissolve. It is going to be arduous. Commitment is arduous. I am not promising you a rose garden. It is very thorny and the path is difficult. But growth comes that way. Fight will come, nagging and misery will be there, and you will be in moments when you will never be able to forgive me.

Woman brings reality and man lives alone in dreams. A woman comes and shatters all dreams. She is very earthy, very real. Man is a dreamer, woman is very realistic, so she will pull you down to the earth.

Unless a man is committed to a woman he never becomes adult; he remains a child.

The maturity comes when you start encountering a woman. She really creates spaces of which you are not aware. She will bring to the surface your own faces which will never come by themselves.

Facing a woman is facing a mirror."

The sexual penetration is nothing but a search again for the womb. Just that line has given me so much more reverence for my body and what I have to offer to the world.

It is sacred work, being a woman. If you are a woman reading this, I hope that you acknowledge your beauty, wisdom, strength and courage.

If you are a man reading this, I hope that you have a woman in your life that you treasure. Because when a woman is nurtured, loved and revered, she will give you more than you could ever imagine.

That is the nature of women, we are the nurturers. And we deserve a million rainbows for what we give.

Blessings to you.
